Now Historic is less the 'Standard Plus', and more the Legends of Runeterra or Gwent competitor. That changed with the launch of Historic Horizons in July 2021, which introduced digital-exclusive mechanics to the game. For years, Historic was simply the 'every card in Arena' format, and developed its own fans and metagame. This means cards that left legality in Standard could still be played here, giving life to decks long after they rotated out.

Every year, around the launch of the early Autumn set, the four oldest sets in Standard are rotated out and are not longer legal. Rotation can be tricky to follow at times. Though this is a barrier to entry for some people, it also allows the format to remain fresh and prevent any particularly high-power sets (like the recently rotated out Throne of Eldraine) from completely dominating the metagame. Standard is notable as being one of a handful of rotating formats, meaning cards will eventually leave the format and no longer become legal. He is certainly gifted with great athletic traits, but his lack of production after what was a stellar 2020 will cause him to slide.Standard is Magic's 'premiere' format, being the one most sets are primarily designed to support. Leal has a high motor and is good against the run, but he took a step back in both his pass rushing and run defense in 2021. He has fluid hips and is great at using his hands. He didn’t have the best combine, but his tape is enticing. He needs some more polish outside, though. He might skew slightly towards being more of a 3-technique early on where he has a great first step. He has great athleticism, aligns all over the defensive line, and is great at converting his speed to power.
